HVGA Newsletter - January, 2010 Dear HVGA members, I want to welcome all current and new members to the 2010 HVGA Golf season. The first tournament of the year will be held at Tour 18 Houston on February 6th. We will post on our website (www.HVGA.com) the remaining tournament dates and locations shortly. HVGA has always supported Hope Initiative. Please sign up for their 2010 Charity Golf Tournament at Wildcat on Feb 20th to show your support. For more details about HI please see their website at www.hionline.org. As usual we will have a Crawfish Boil in April, Members Dinner in September, Thanksgiving Shootout in November, and Christmas Shootout in December. This year HVGA will host the Texas Cup on October 9-10. We are in the process of securing the location. The 2nd annual President's Cup will be played again in Lake Charles, LA on September 25-26. The Committee made changes that will hopefully benefit our members and the club as a whole. These changes are as follow: 1.) In the spirit of fair competition HVGA is making the following flight recommendation for our players. The recommendation is based on each player's current handicap index. Each player still has the option to play in his preferred flight. We ask that you declare your flight at the time of tournament registration. If you change your flight during the season you will forfeit any TXCP points earned in that respective flight. The Committee retains the right to ask a player to move to the appropriate flight if there is reasonable cause. Handicap Index and Recommended Flight: 0-10 A-flight (Will play from the back tees) 2.) The purpose of our club is to promote fair and friendly competition among our members and guests. We recognize that our club is composed of players with different skill levels. As a result, we will create a C Flight for those players with a HVGA Handicap Index of 21 or higher. Details for C flight are listed below: - A Gross trophy will be awarded to the player with the lowest gross score in each tournament - A NET score trophy will NOT be awarded to the player with the lowest net score in each tournament - C flight players will be eligible to win the B flight Gross and Net Club Championship trophies. - C flight players will play from the same tee boxes as the B flight players - C flight players will compete with B flight players for Texas Cup points and will be eligible to participate in the Presidents and Texas Cup events. 3.) The Texas Cup point distribution was modified to promote more competition and add vulnerability in the point standings. In 2010 TXCP points are percentage based on a 2,800 point distribution. You must be a member and eligible to play in the TXCP in order to earn points. Click here to view the point distributions by finished positions. 4.) In an event of a tie in a tournament HVGA will do a scorecard playoff starting with the three most difficult holes to determine the winner. A player with the lowest sum based on the first 3 most difficult holes will be determined as the winner. Any ties after that is a hole by hole playoff of the next difficult hole until a winner is determined. The determined winner will receive the Gross trophy and the full TXCP points for first place. 5.) New Member Referral - HVGA is offering a $25 credit (towards 2010 tournament fees) for each person that you refer to HVGA. You must be a current member to be eligible for the referral credit. The person being referred must pay the membership fee and not be a former member.
