Katrina relief fund

On behalf of HVGA Board and Committee members, we would like to say thank you to all (HVGA, TVGA and AVGA .. our Canadian friends) that donated towards hurricane Katrina relief fund. The fund was raised in an effort to help fellow Vietnamese who were victims of the hurricane. Your kind contributions taling $8,090 will help many families impacted by the hurricane get basic necessities that they have lost. All monetary donations went to the Vietnamese Dominican Sisters. www.nutudaminh.org

It's wonderful to see how the game of golf can build such strong ties outside of 18 holes. Again, we sincerely appreciate your donations in helping our fellow Vietnamese in this devastating hurricane. Click here to view photos.

Great to have you back!

Hope all members had a wonderful break. Now it is time to get back into the "swing" of things. For returning members - "Great to have you back!" For new members - "Welcome to HVGA!" HVGA's 2005 Season guarantees to be another fun-filled yet competitive season.

Our Annual Dinner to kick off the upcoming season will held at Kim Son Restaurant (2001 Jefferson Street Tel: 713.222.2404) on February 19, 2005 at 7:00 pm. All members and their spouses/significant others are welcomed to join us. Please RSVP by February 16th with Kraig Nguyen at 832.715.4808 or kraig.nguyen@hvga.com.

Is your golf game a little rusty? Or are you aiming to win the next tournament? In our efforts to promote the game of golf, free golfing lessons are offered to all HVGA members every Sunday afternoon from 3 pm 'til 6 pm (weather permitting) at Memorial Golf Course Driving Range. Whether you need help with your swing, chipping or overall game, one of our members will provide you one-on-one coaching to hone your skills and improve your game. Contact Tai Hesston at 832.630.8555 or Loi Nguyen at 832.368.7814 (after business hours) or Kraig Nguyen for further details.

Our first tournament of the year will be on March 12th at Cypresswood, the CREEK course. We will send more details about this event as the date approaches. Mark your calendars, our monthly club tournaments will be held on the first Saturday of every month unless there are extenuating circumstances. Members are encouraged to take part in our tournaments which promise ample competition and camaraderie. In addition, your participation in the tournaments will help you accumulate Ryder Cup points! Please contact Matt Ta at 817.501.7421 or matt.ta@hvga.com to sign-up for the tournaments.

HVGA strongly believes in giving back to the community. In the past, we have helped Hope Initiative in their efforts to assist orphans in Vietnam. We once again call upon our members to support Hope Initiative. All members should come out and participate in Hope Initiative's "Putting Fore the Future" Charity Golf Tournament to be held on Saturday, March 5th at Longwood Golf Club. The cost for the tournament is $80 which includes green fee, shared cart fee, player goodie bag, tournament t-shirt and dinner. Please contact Kraig Nguyen to sign-up for this tournament.

It is our members that have made HVGA such a great success. We encourage all members to promote HVGA and the game of golf to others by recruiting new members. This will ensure that HVGA is a success for years to come.

Regards,

Loi Nguyen
